Director and Solicitor
Nigel is a Director of Hughes Jenkins. He attended Cardiff University and the College of Law, Guildford. Following qualification in 1992, Nigel worked for an international law firm in Manchester before becoming a partner at Leo Abse and Cohen. He then ran the in-house Legal Department for Royal and Sun Alliance PLC at Bristol before setting up Hughes Jenkins in 2002. Nigel advises clients in accident and industrial disease cases.He has experience of handing cases at all levels of Courts including the Court of Appeal. Nigel's reported cases include Standerwick v Royal Ordinance (admissions of liability), Drew v Abbassi & Packer (multipliers in Fatal Accident Claims) and Dame Margaret Hungerford v Beazeley . Nigel also advises in family cases and has experience of dealing with cases involving an international element.This has included cases with property in Turkey, Sierra Leone and Thailand.Nigel is a member of Resolution. He is also the firm's Compliance Office for Finance & Administration (COFA) and as such manages the financial operations of the firm. Nigel is a keen sailor and for many years helped crew a racing yacht in the Bristol Channel and beyond. More recently Nigel has confined his sailing activities to solo sailing his Laser Dinghy.Nigel also holds a level 1 hockey coaching qualification and over a number of years acted as an assistant coach at Gwent Hockey.
Director, Solicitor and Head of Wills and Probate
Emily is a Director of the firm. She is a Solicitor and Head of our Wills and Probate Department. Emily has over 8 years experience in private client work, specialising in Lasting Power of Attorney, Court of Protection matters, Wills and Probate. Emily has been working in this area since she qualified and thoroughly enjoys assisting families and individuals. Emily qualified as a solicitor in 2013 having completed her Law degree and Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University. Emily completed her training contract at a medium sized firm in Bridgend and joined Hughes Jenkins Solicitors in August 2015. Emily became a Director at Hughes Jenkins Solicitors in March 2018 and is also the firm’s Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP). Emily has also completed several professional development courses in probate and estate administration such as STEP: Estate Administration and STEP: Trust Administration. Outside of work Emily enjoys keeping fit and regularly attends the gym. Emily also enjoys dining out and travelling.
As Practice Manager and Legal Cashier, Lisa, from Blackwood, is responsible for the smooth running of the firm. Lisa joined Hughes Jenkins in January 2018 with over 25 years of experience. Outside of work Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and looking after her 2 dogs.
Receptionist and Legal Assistant
Kelly is local to the Blackwood area and joined the firm in November 2015. She has previous experience of working in a legal office environment having worked for firms in Newbridge and Caerphilly.
Licenced Conveyancer and Head of Conveyancing
Rachel Coles is the Head of our Conveyancing Department and has over 20 years experience in Conveyancing. Rachel has been working in this area prior to and since she qualified. Rachel qualified as a Licensed Conveyancer in 2003 after completing her finals at College Gwent. She completed her training at Harding Evans where she worked for many years and gained valuable experience in all aspects of Residential Conveyancing. Rachel joined our firm in September 2018 as Head of the Conveyancing Department. Rachel has vast experience in all aspects of residential conveyancing dealing with an average case load of 150 files at any one time. Outside of work Rachel likes to spend time with her family. Rachel enjoys walking and reading.
Cath, from Aberdare, is among the longest serving members of staff at the firm and has worked for Hughes Jenkins Solicitors since 2005. She has vast experience of working in the legal industry having worked at a large firm for six years before beginning her current role.
Jessica Collier is a Solicitor working in both the Conveyancing Department and Wills and Probate. Jessica obtained her Law Degree at Swansea University and then went on to complete the Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University. Jessica completed her training contract and gained valuable experience at a small local firm before qualifying as a Solicitor in 2018. Outside of work Jessica enjoys spending time with her family and friends, walking and dining out.
Tracy Haddock is the Legal Assistant in our Wills and Probate Department. Tracy, from Blackwood, joined Hughes Jenkins Solicitors in April 2015. She had previously worked 12 years in another local firm of solicitors as a Legal Secretary.
Diane is based in our Aberdare office and has worked at Hughes Jenkins for 12 years. Her role is to assist on, and progress, a busy caseload and to also speak to new clients, providing them with quotes for property transactions.
